How to Prepare for Your Photoshoot: A Complete Guide for Olongapo and Subic Bay Clients

So you've booked your photoshoot — congratulations! Whether it's a portrait session, a family photo day, a prenup shoot, or just a "because I deserve great photos" moment, one thing's for sure: a little preparation goes a long way.

We've photographed hundreds of clients across Olongapo City, Subic Bay, and the wider Zambales and Bataan area. And there's a consistent pattern we've noticed — clients who come prepared end up with photos they absolutely love. Not because they're more photogenic, but because they feel more relaxed, more confident, and more themselves in front of the camera.

Here's everything you need to know to walk into your photoshoot feeling like a total pro.

Start With Your Outfits (Yes, Plural)

The number one question we get before a session is: "What should I wear?" And our answer is always the same — bring options.

For portrait sessions, we recommend bringing at least two to three outfit changes. This gives you variety in your final gallery and lets you switch between casual, semi-formal, and dressy looks. Solid colors photograph beautifully — think deep greens, navy blue, cream, rust, and soft pastels. Bold patterns can work too, but keep them simple so they don't compete with your face.

For family sessions, coordinate but don't match. You don't all need to wear the same white polo and jeans (please, let that trend rest in peace). Instead, pick a color palette — say, earth tones or blues and creams — and let each family member express their style within that range.

For couples and prenup shoots, bring something casual and something a bit more glam. A flowing dress or barong tagalog can look absolutely stunning against the Subic Bay coastline or the greenery around Zambales.

Pro tip: Lay out your outfits the night before and try everything on. Check for wrinkles, loose threads, and anything that doesn't fit quite right. Iron or steam your clothes — wrinkled fabric shows up in photos more than you'd think.

Skin and Grooming: Start Early

You don't need a full makeover, but giving your skin a little extra love in the days leading up to your session makes a noticeable difference.

  • One week before: Moisturize daily, drink plenty of water, and get good sleep. If you're prone to breakouts, avoid trying new skincare products right before the shoot.
  • Two to three days before: Get your haircut or trim if you need one. Fresh cuts look sharp, but you want a day or two for it to settle and look natural.
  • Day of: Keep makeup natural unless you're going for a specific look. If you're hiring a makeup artist (which we highly recommend for formal sessions), book them with enough buffer time. Rushed makeup leads to stress, and stress shows in photos.
  • For guys: Trim or groom facial hair the day before. Clean nails — sounds small, but close-up shots of hands (holding your partner's, carrying your baby, etc.) happen more often than you'd expect.

If you want to book a professional hair and makeup artist in the Olongapo area, let us know — we work with several talented MUAs who specialize in photography-ready looks.

Timing Is Everything

The time of day you shoot matters more than most people realize, especially for outdoor sessions.

Golden hour — that warm, glowy window about an hour before sunset — is hands down the most flattering natural light. In Olongapo and Subic Bay, golden hour typically falls around 5:00 to 5:45 PM depending on the season. If you're doing an outdoor session along the coastline or at a park, we almost always recommend this window.

Morning light (around 6:30 to 8:00 AM) is another great option. It's soft, cool, and the streets and public spaces are quieter. Perfect if you want a more peaceful, uncrowded vibe for your photos.

Midday sun is harsh and creates unflattering shadows under the eyes and chin. If your schedule only allows a noon session, don't worry — that's where our onsite studio setup shines. We bring professional lighting equipment right to your location, so even in the middle of the day, we can create beautifully lit, studio-quality photos anywhere in Olongapo City or the surrounding areas.

Choose Your Location (Or Let Us Help)

One of the best things about shooting in the Olongapo and Subic Bay area is the variety of backdrops available within a short drive.

For outdoor shoots, the Subic Bay Freeport Zone offers a mix of tree-lined roads, open waterfront areas, and well-maintained parks. The Subic Bay Boardwalk along Waterfront Road is a popular spot for couples — the bay view at golden hour is hard to beat.

For indoor sessions, our mobile onsite studio is the easiest option. We set up professional lighting, backdrops, and equipment right at your home, office, or event venue. No need to travel — we bring the studio to you. This is especially popular for family portraits with babies or toddlers, where keeping everyone comfortable in a familiar space makes the session so much smoother.

For a mix of both, some clients love starting indoors for formal portraits and then heading outside for a few candid, lifestyle-style shots. We're flexible and happy to work with whatever combination feels right for you.

Props and Personal Touches

Props aren't required, but they can add personality and meaning to your photos. Here are some ideas based on the type of session:

  • Family photos: A favorite blanket, matching mugs, your pet (yes, bring the dog!)
  • Couples/prenup: Something meaningful — the book you both love, a picnic basket, flowers from your first date spot
  • Portraits: Your instrument, art supplies, sports gear, or anything that represents who you are
  • Baby and milestone shoots: Age blocks, stuffed animals, a tiny pair of shoes

The best props are things that tell your story. We've had clients bring everything from surfboards to lechon (it was a family reunion shoot — it worked perfectly).

What to Expect During the Session

If this is your first professional photoshoot, here's the honest truth: the first five minutes might feel a little awkward. That's completely normal. Most people aren't used to having a camera pointed at them, and it takes a moment to settle in.

Here's what we do to help:

  1. We start with easy poses. Simple standing or sitting positions, nothing complicated. This lets you get used to the camera and the lighting.
  2. We give clear direction. You don't need to know how to pose — that's our job. We'll guide you on where to put your hands, how to angle your body, and where to look.
  3. We keep it conversational. The best expressions come from genuine moments — laughing at a joke, whispering something to your partner, tickling your kid. We create those moments.
  4. We show you preview shots. Seeing a great photo of yourself on the back of the camera is an instant confidence booster. Once you see how good you look, the rest of the session flows naturally.

A typical portrait session runs about one to two hours. Family and event sessions can be longer depending on the package. We always recommend allowing extra time rather than rushing — relaxed sessions produce better photos, every single time.

The Night Before: Your Photoshoot Checklist

Here's a quick checklist to run through the evening before your session:

  • [ ] Outfits selected, ironed, and packed
  • [ ] Accessories ready (jewelry, watches, glasses if you wear them)
  • [ ] Props gathered
  • [ ] Shoes cleaned (we see your feet in full-body shots!)
  • [ ] Phone charged (for reference photos and behind-the-scenes)
  • [ ] Snacks and water packed (especially for longer sessions or if kids are involved)
  • [ ] Location confirmed with your photographer
  • [ ] Get a good night's sleep — puffy eyes and dark circles are harder to edit than you think

A Note About Weather

Here in the Olongapo and Zambales area, weather can be unpredictable — especially during the rainy months from June to November. If we're doing an outdoor session and the weather looks iffy, don't panic. We always have a backup plan, whether that's rescheduling, switching to an indoor location, or pulling out our mobile studio setup.

And honestly? Some of our favorite photos have been taken right after rain, when the sky clears and everything looks fresh and dramatic. Trust the process.

You're Going to Look Amazing

Here's the thing — you don't need to be a model to have incredible photos. You just need to show up as yourself, with a little preparation and a willingness to have fun. We handle the rest.

Whether you're shooting at your home in Olongapo City, along the Subic Bay waterfront, or at a venue anywhere in Zambales or Bataan, we're here to make sure you walk away with photos you'll genuinely love.
