Best Photoshoot Locations in Subic Bay & Zambales: A Local Photographer's Guide

If you've ever scrolled through someone's gorgeous prenup photos and thought, "Where in the world was that taken?" — chances are, it might have been right here in Subic Bay or Zambales. We're lucky to live and work in an area that has beaches, forests, waterfront views, and even horse stables, all within a short drive of each other.

As a photography team based in Olongapo City, we've shot at dozens of locations across the region. Some spots are Instagram-famous, others are hidden gems that only locals know about. This guide is our honest take on the best places to take photos in Subic Bay and Zambales — whether it's for a prenup shoot, debut portraits, family sessions, or just a really good profile picture.

Why Location Matters More Than You Think

Here's a quick truth from behind the camera: the right location can cut your editing time in half. A beautiful, well-lit backdrop means less retouching, more natural-looking photos, and a much more relaxed shoot overall. When you're fighting ugly backgrounds and bad lighting, even the best photographer is working uphill.

That's why we always recommend scouting your location first — or better yet, asking your photographer for recommendations based on the vibe you're going for.

Let's get into the spots.

Beach and Waterfront Locations

Camayan Beach Resort, Subic Bay Freeport Zone

Camayan Beach sits along what many locals call the best beach in Subic. The white sand curves gently along the shore, backed by lush rainforest that creates a dramatic green backdrop behind you. It's located at Camayan Wharf in the West Ilanin Forest Area of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Best for: Prenup shoots, family portraits, debut photos

Photography tips: The beach faces west, which means golden hour here is absolutely spectacular. Schedule your shoot for 4:00–5:30 PM and you'll get that warm, golden light bouncing off the water. Morning shoots work well too — the beach is quieter and the light is soft and even.

What to know: There's an entrance fee to the Freeport Zone and a separate resort day-use fee. Coordinate with the resort in advance if you're bringing professional equipment — they're generally accommodating, but it's always good to give them a heads-up.

All Hands Beach, Subic Bay Freeport Zone

All Hands Beach is one of the most accessible beaches inside the Freeport Zone, located between the Subic Bay International Airport and the Subic Container Terminal. It's a public beach with a long shoreline, palm trees, and — on a clear day — views that stretch across the bay.

Best for: Casual family sessions, barkada shoots, birthday celebrations

Photography tips: The wide-open beach gives you plenty of room to work with. The palm-lined areas provide natural frames for your shots, and the water is generally calm enough for wading shots. Just watch out for midday sun — there's limited shade on the main beach.

What to know: It gets crowded on weekends and holidays. For the best experience (and the most privacy for your shoot), go on a weekday morning.

Crystal Beach Resort, San Narciso, Zambales

If you're willing to drive a bit further — about 45 minutes north of Olongapo — Crystal Beach Resort in Barangay La Paz, San Narciso is worth every kilometer. It's famous for surfing, but the wide sandy beach and bohemian resort vibe make it an incredible photoshoot location too.

Best for: Adventurous prenups, lifestyle shoots, couple portraits with a surfer-cool aesthetic

Photography tips: The beach here has a wilder, more natural feel compared to the manicured resorts inside the Freeport Zone. Use the surf shacks, palm trees, and crashing waves as dynamic elements in your shots. Late afternoon light here hits differently — the beach gets this warm, almost cinematic glow.

What to know: This is an active surf spot, so check the wave conditions if you're planning water shots. The resort is open 24 hours and has day-use options available. Book ahead on peak season weekends.

Waterfront and Resort Venues

The Lighthouse Marina Resort, Subic Bay Freeport Zone

The Lighthouse is one of those places that looks good from every angle. Located at Moonbay Marina Complex along Waterfront Road in the Freeport Zone, it sits right on the bay with a distinctive lighthouse structure that's become an iconic local landmark. The marina setting gives you yachts, blue water, and golden sunsets as your backdrop.

Best for: Elegant prenups, debut portfolios, corporate headshots with a premium feel

Photography tips: The mix of textures here is fantastic — polished wood, white structures, blue water, green landscaping. For portraits, the marina walkway during golden hour creates beautiful rim lighting. The interior spaces are equally photogenic for more formal shots.

What to know: The Lighthouse hosts events regularly, so always coordinate with them before bringing a full photography setup. They're known for being accommodating with photo shoots, especially on weekdays.

Subic Bay Yacht Club, Subic Bay Freeport Zone

The Yacht Club sits on Rizal Highway corner Burgos Street in the Freeport Zone, and it screams old-money elegance. Think polished boats, manicured grounds, and that classic maritime atmosphere. It's a premium venue that adds instant sophistication to any photo session.

Best for: Formal prenups, anniversary sessions, corporate portraits

Photography tips: The grounds offer a variety of looks — from the marina boardwalk to landscaped gardens to the grand interiors. The presidential suite and waterfront areas are particularly photogenic. Shoot early morning for soft light and fewer people in the background.

What to know: As a members' club, you'll need to coordinate access. If you're booked for an event there, add time for a photo session — you won't want to miss the backdrop.

Nature and Forest Locations

El Kabayo Riding Stable, Subic Bay Freeport Zone

This is our dark horse pick (pun absolutely intended). El Kabayo is a riding stable tucked inside the forest area of the Freeport Zone, complete with a white plantation-style house, horse trails, and even a waterfall trail. It's like stepping into a completely different world — rustic, green, and surprisingly romantic.

Best for: Prenup shoots, lifestyle portraits, family sessions with a countryside vibe

Photography tips: The plantation house makes a gorgeous backdrop for portraits. If you book a horse, the combination of forest trails and horses creates images that look like they belong in a magazine. The canopy of trees provides natural diffused light, which means you can shoot comfortably even at midday.

What to know: Prenup photography rates start at around Php 2,500 for the first hour, with horse rental at Php 500 per hour per horse. Look for the El Kabayo sign and follow the dirt road about 100 meters to the white house. Trail rides range from 15-minute quick rides to full one-hour waterfall trail experiences.

Tree Top Adventure and Forest Trails, Subic Bay

The forested areas of the Freeport Zone offer trails canopied by towering tropical trees. Even without booking an adventure activity, the surrounding forest roads and paths provide lush, green backdrops that photograph beautifully.

Best for: Engagement shoots, editorial-style portraits, any session where you want that "enchanted forest" vibe

Photography tips: Overcast days are actually your best friend here — the clouds act as a giant softbox, giving you even, flattering light through the canopy. Bring a reflector to add a little pop to your subject's eyes. The dappled light through the trees can create stunning bokeh effects.

Urban and Street Locations

Olongapo City Proper and Magsaysay Drive

Don't overlook the city itself. Olongapo's main streets, especially around Magsaysay Drive, offer colorful urban backdrops — street murals, local shops, and that unmistakable Filipino city energy. For lifestyle and documentary-style photography, the city has character that no resort can replicate.

Best for: Casual couple shoots, personal branding, editorial portraits

Photography tips: Early morning (6:00–7:30 AM) is ideal before the streets get busy with traffic. Look for walls with interesting textures, colorful signage, and the natural street life that gives Olongapo its personality. Side streets off the main road often have the best hidden spots.

Subic Bay Freeport Zone Commercial Areas

The Freeport Zone's commercial strips — with their wide tree-lined roads, American-era architecture, and well-maintained parks — offer a different urban feel. It's cleaner, more spacious, and has a unique historical character that comes from the former naval base architecture.

Best for: Corporate headshots, graduation photos, personal branding with a polished look

Photography tips: The wide roads mean great natural light. The mix of old and new architecture gives you variety without needing to change locations. Early mornings on weekdays are practically empty — you'll have the streets to yourself.

Tips for Getting the Best Photos at Any Location

No matter where you choose to shoot, a few universal tips will help you get the most out of your session:

Time your shoot right. Golden hour (the hour before sunset) is magic at almost every location in the area. The warm light is flattering for everyone and creates beautiful, natural-looking photos. In our region, that's typically around 5:00–6:00 PM depending on the season.

Scout before you shoot. Even if you know a location well as a visitor, seeing it through a photographer's eye is different. Visit at the same time you plan to shoot so you can check the lighting conditions and identify the best spots.

Bring the right wardrobe. Match your outfit to the location. Flowing dresses work beautifully on the beach. Structured outfits look great against architectural backdrops. Earth tones blend naturally with forest settings. Avoid busy patterns that compete with the background.

Consider a mobile studio option. Sometimes the best shot at a location just needs a little extra lighting or a backdrop to create a dedicated portrait area. That's where an onsite studio setup comes in — combining the beauty of the location with the control of professional studio lighting.
